Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1. WELCOME TO COSTA RICA. Arrival to the International Airport Juan Santamaria. Upon arrival at the San Jose airport, you will be met by one of our representatives how will explain your itinerary, answer any questions and provide you with a packet of vouchers and information about your trip. Transfer to Hotel Villa Tournon and free time at leisure.
Optional and depending on arrival time: City Tour: Visiting: San Jose, University of Costa Rica, San Pedro, Principal buildings as National Museum, National Teather, Congress, Yellow House, Plaza de la Cultura, Gold Museum, etc. Residential areas and principal Malls. Dinner on your own.
Day 2. POAS VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK (B, L, D) We take the Pan-American Highway towards the city of Alajuela. In route we will go to visit the Agriculture Monument, the Monument to Juan Santamaria and the famous Mango Park. As we ascend towards the volcano we will stop for a brief explanation on our golden bean the coffee, and then continue our trip through fern, flower and strawberry farms.
There is a noticeable change in temperature and vegetation, preparing us for the pleasure of the exuberant cloud forest of Poas Volcano. At the Volcano we will have time to enjoy the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and hike on a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon as we learn about the different ecosystems in the park. After visiting the volcano, we will have time to enjoy a delicious lunch in a typical restaurant.
Our second stop is beautiful Grecia. Considered one of the cleanest towns of Latin America, it is home of the only Metal Church in Central America and a national monument that fills its inhabitants with pride. In order to catch a glimpse of local lifestyle we will also visit the central market area.
Our third and last stop is Sarchi, known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans because of its fine workshops. Here we will have time to enjoy the artistic work of the local artisans as they create the famous typical oxcart and you will be able to shop for that special souvenir to take home. Return to San Jose and dinner.
Day 3. IRAZU VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK. (B, L, D). We take the Panamerican Highway South, to start ascending the large “Iztaru”. The winding road travels through fertile lands cultivated with all kinds of vegetables as we observe a lovely panoramic view. On the top of the volcano you can observe the main craters and on a clear day both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans can be seen. As we descend to the city of Cartago we will stop at the Virgin of the Angels Basilica that according to religious custom is a peregrination site for many believers.
After visiting the Basilica we will stop at Lankester Gardens, a University of Costa Rica Center for investigation that protects more than 800 species of orchids, bromeliads and countless species of other plants. We will continue to the Valley of Orosi where creation overflows in unparallel beauty.
We will be able to visit one of the few remaining colonial churches and we will stop for lunch in one of the local restaurants. During our tour we will be able to observe La Casa Del Soñador an example of Costa Rican primitive art.
Return to the Hotel and dinner.
Day 4. ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK. (B, L, D). Located in the north of Costa Rica, the impressive Arenal Volcano is a natural phenomenon that attracts thousands and thousands of tourists due to its permanent, extraordinary and trusted volcanic activity, which on clear nights it seems like fireworks with intermittent explosions of ash and lava. As we continue our trip we will go throw diverse plantations with agricultural products,
ornamental plants and cattle ranches until we arrive to La Fortuna, for lunch in a cozy restaurant right in front of the volcano. This excellent location will allow us the best view to see any volcanic activity.
Check in at hotel La Pradera. Afternnon, visit to La Fortuna Town and surroundings.
Day 5. ARENALVOLCANO TOUR. (B, L, D). Breakfast at the Hotel and tour to Arenal Volcano National Park. Guided hike through lush rainforest near Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Accompanied by an experienced naturalist guide you will safely explore primary and secondary rainforest and the animals and plants that live there. On the trail is a volcano observation point that offers the nearest possible observation point at the base of Arenal Volcano. After enjoying the sunset the view becomes even more awesome when on clear nights you can see the lava flow of Central America's most-active volcano and if you're lucky, you may be able to hear the eruption or the thuds as large lava rocks come tumbling down the side of cone shaped Arenal Volcano.
Lunch in Fotuna Town and afternoon free time. Optional adventure tours available.
Day 6. PLAYA PANAMA (B, L, D) Say good by to Arenal and transfer to Playa Panama located in Papagayo Gulf, one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Upon arrival, check in at Hotel Casa Conde de Mar and free time at leisure for enjoy the beautiful hotel facilities and the pristine beach.
Day 7. PLAYA PANAMA - SAN JOSE. (B, L, D) Morning breakfast at the hotel and free time for enjoy the beautiful beach. By Noon, hotel check out and return to San Jose. Stop for lunch on route. Upon arrival to San Jose, Check In at Hotel Villa Tournon. Evening, farewell dinner in San Jose.
Day 8. TRANSFER OUT (B). Transfer to the International Airport according with your scheduled flight and good bye.
NOTE: Rates based on Triple & Quad occupancy for the students and double rooms for the teachers. No single rooms available unless a single supplement is paid.
CHAPERONES: One free ticket for every 15 students.
MINIMUM: 15 students.
INCLUDE: 7 nights lodging in high quality Hotels, all land transportation within Costa Rica, all airport/ hotel transfers on scheduled arrival/ departures dates only, specified meals, specified tours, private transportation and naturalist tour guide.
NOT INCLUDED: International air fare, airport departure taxes, meals not specified in the itinerary, alcoholic beverages, personal equipment, extras in hotels (laundry, phone calls, room service), gratuities, or costs associated with changes in your itinerary for reasons beyond our control.

DEPARTURE DATES: All our options are available all year around and we just need your travel dates in order to check the hotel's availability and arrange it.
HOW BIG ARE THE GROUPS: Our vacations are operated in an independent basis and you will not travel as part of a group unless you are part of a group. However, during the transfers and Daily Tours you will travel with other tourist we might have for that particular activity or service.
HOW TO RESERVE THIS PACKAGE: Please send an email to info@greenwaytours.com with as much as information you can about your desired vacation, number of participants, arrival dates, name of the package you are interested on and any other special requirements. Once you receive our confirmation form, a 20% deposit is due. Full payment due 60 days prior to departure.
CAN I CUSTOMIZE A PACKAGE: Yes, you can use our packages as a base and make any change on it. We are very flexible. If these packages do not fit on your desired vacation, just send an email to us and we can prepare a new option for you.
AIRFARE IS NOT INCLUDED: All our options includes the Land Portion only. Airfare must be on your own and indicate your arrival and departure dates to us in order to arrange the hotel's bookings.
HOTEL CATEGORIES: All the hotels used by Greenway Tours had been selected considering the best standards of quality and service. Our Hotels are between 3 and 5 stars. All inspected by our company's owners and managers in order to guarantee an excellent service. At least 50% of our lodging contractors had been certified as Green Companies by the Costa Rican Tourist Board ( Certification in Sustainable Tourism CST ).
AIRPORT TRANSFERS: All our packages includes Airport - Hotel - Airport Transfers with a professional bilingual tour guide upon your flight arrival.
VOUCHERS & WECOME KIT: During the transfer service to your hotel, our tour guide will provide general information about your tour and give you a welcome kit with all the vouchers and documents you will need for your trip.
